Advice for applying
- Embassy Recommendation (MEXT):As the application guidelines are typically updated each year between April and May on the website of the Embassy of Japan in India, prospective applicants are advised to check the site regularly.
- University-specific scholarships: Major universities such as the University of Tokyo, Kyoto University, and Waseda University have their own tuition fee exemptions and scholarships (e.g., the University of Tokyo Fund) for Indian students. Be sure to check the " International Student Support " page of your preferred school.
- Note about application timing: Many private scholarships require you to apply through your university after enrolling in Japan. However, MEXT and some foundations (such as Honjo) allow you to apply before arriving in Japan.
- Language requirements: For programs where the degree can be obtained in English (such as G30), Japanese language proficiency is often not an issue, but JASSO and some private foundations may consider scores on the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) to be an advantage.
